After the recent passing of actor and imaginative genius Gene Wilder at the age of 83, the whole world paused for a moment. Despite wanting to be known as more than just Willy Wonka, there’s no doubt Gene’s star role in the original children’s blockbuster film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 1971 made a huge impact on many of our lives to this day. So it comes as no surprise that many of the visual tributes to the great actor this week have referenced that iconic role.

Jason Mecier is one artist joining the millions of others in these tributes, but has put his own sweet twist on it, by paying ultimate homage to Gene Wilder through a candy mosaic portrait. The work features a mix of jelly beans, Smarties, and Wonka’s own Everlasting Gobstoppers, of course.

Check out his Wilder tribute above and keep up to date with more of his work here.
