LIFE magazine recently published some never-before-seen images shot by Michael Rougier, on assignment in Tokyo in 1964. The stark images capture a generation of pill-popping rebellious youths, ‘hurtling towards oblivion’. It’s a fascinating insight into a generation trapped within the confines of a culture notorious for its conformity.
