Brazilian designers Estudio Guto Requena have combined the magic of sound and 3D printing to create an ingenious new chair that’s more about #art than #functionality. Introducing the ‘Nóize Chair’.

First produced in 2012, the Nóize Chair is created by mixing recorded sounds captured by mobile phones with original CAD (computer-aided design) files, which, combined together, makes a new distorted version of the original design. These new sound-mixed blueprints then come to life through the magic of 3D printing. Upping it another notch at their showing at this year’s São Paolo Design Week, Estudio Guto Requena teamed up with meta-D to make their concept of the Nóize Chair audience-interactive. Setting up the printer in the gallery, every day they recorded random sounds within the gallery space to put together new hybrid files which were then printed into miniature-sized Nóize Chairs, each one completely unique.
