Canvassed: Chris Drummond22-Oct-2012
Having thrown much support behind local and international artists through his boutique screen-printing studio and gallery, Dangerfork, it seems kinda weird that Chris Drummond, an artist himself, has never had an exhibition of his own work. That changes this week with Drummond’s debut solo exhibition opening at the CBD’s newest art space, Litre Space Gallery, this Thursday night. We caught up with him ahead of the opening, to get the lowdown on what went down during the show’s preparation.
My name is… Chris Drummond
But I’m also known as… one of those ID hooligans.
My latest exhibition is called… Play the Angles
And it is about… exploring the traditional graffiti ideology of creating ‘style’ through the right combinations of lines, angles & colours in a totally different context to how it was originally developed.
Some things that influenced this series are… mass-market advertising, graffiti, ’80s surf graphics, supermarket aisles.
An album I listened to a stack when making the works was… Black Sands by Bonobo.
The time of day I’m most likely to make art is… early evenings.
The hardest part of putting this show together was… the short time frame.
First thing I do when I get up in the morning is… shit, shower & (shaving is for suckers…)
Some other artists I have been enjoying the work of are… Roids, Horfé, Tomcat, Barry McGee, REVOK, Steve Powers, KR, Meggs, Mayo, Roach, Numskull, Beastman, Augustine Kofie, Nug, Dave Kinsey, Mike Giant…
What I’m working on at the moment is… a bunch of screen-prints with some really cool artists for release through my label, Dangerfork.
My favourite colour is… black, although you wouldn’t pick it looking at my artwork…
If I wasn’t doing what I’m doing, I’d be… dead
Tomorrow I will be… an astronaut
The last website I visited was… theberrics.com
My favourite youtube vid is…
