Rounding off a successful five-week solo residency and exhibition at Detroit’s Innerstate Gallery, David Hookes aka MEGGS reveals his biggest ever public mural. Standing at over 6,000 square feet, the ‘Rise Up’ mural is MEGGS’ ode to the city that has hosted him over the last couple of months and symbolises self-empowerment and progress.

“The tiger is a symbol that all Detroiters relate to and feel proud ownership of – it’s a symbol that’s born from Detroit’s glory days and one that survived its unfortunate downfall. It was great to be able to share this wall with three local Detroit heavy hitters – props to Tead, Elmer, and Rawr.”

Imposing over the Motor City’s industrial district, the piece is not only physically impressive but managed to continue on to completion despite recent graffiti crackdowns in the city courtesy of laws passed by Mayor Mike Duggan. MEGGS stays winning. Take a look at the mural in greater detail in our gallery above.
