James Franco in drag? Sounds like art to me… But apparently not according to famed US photographer, Cindy Sherman. The artist was responding to Franco’s recent appropriation of her acclaimed ‘Untitled Film Stills’ series.

Franco’s exhibition, entitled ‘James Franco: New Film Stills’ is on show at the Pace Gallery and features the actor dressed in drag, reimagining the famed photos of Sherman’s series.

When questioned over Franco’s recreation, Sherman responded, “I was flattered, I can only be flattered,” but “I don’t know that I can say it’s art, but I think it’s weirder that Pace would show them than that he would make them.”

However, it wasn’t all bad news for the actor, with Sherman expressing appreciation for Franco’s ‘Bound 2‘ spoof of Kanye West, calling it “hysterical”… You win some, you lose some.
