Lo-Fi Collective in collaboration with ID/Lab, Sumo Visual Group are bringing the Sign Painters movie to Sydney. The Sign Painters movie, directed by Faythe Levine and Sam Macon, is an 80-minute documentary movie about the dedicated practitioners, their time honoured methods, and their appreciation for quality and craftsmanship. Sign Painters, the first anecdotal history of the craft, features the stories of more than two dozen sign painters working in cities throughout the United States.

The documentary and book profiles sign painters young and old, from the new vanguard working solo to collaborative shops such as San Francisco’s New Bohemia Signs and New York’s Colossal Media’s Sky High Murals. The movie has screened a large number of times so far in the USA and Canada to great acclaim and the book has received rave reviews.

Mark Feeney, Boston Globe: “Sign Painters, which has been put together with equal parts affection and skill by directors Faythe Levine and Sam
Macon, is fresh and passionate and unexpected.”

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “This is not only a wonderful book, a delight to take in, rich and telling in its details and a visual pleasure with its gorgeous photography. It’s an important book that captures a largely untold story.”
