James Franco makes the spectator a participator in his latest interactive multimedia exhibition held at London’s Pace Gallery. Psycho Nacirema, presented by Scottish artist Douglas Gordon, is a mise-en-scène of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller Psycho. Linking reality and performance, Franco incorporates the Arbuckle case of 1921 in which an actor was charged with murder, and Hitchcock’s Psycho. In this multimedia environment, the audience can find themselves in the shoes of Marion Crane and Norman Bates and reflecting upon their own psychological inadequacies. Set in the scene of Bates Motel, the audience member “becomes an actor when interacting with this work” according to Franco.
