One of the leading artists within the Japanese contemporary sculpture scene since the early 1990’s, is Japanese born Kyotaro Hakamata.

Heavily influencing a younger generation of budding artists in his wake, it’s clear to see why so many aspiring sculpture artists find his work to be the pinnacle of Japanese contemporary sculpture. In 2011, several key sculpture pieces he has created over the years from 1987 – 2011 were combined in a show at the Shizuoka City Museum of Art.

The show, titled “Hakamata Kyotaro 1987-2011” was a stunning display of Hakamata’s finest work. You can check some of the work out in our gallery above.
