If you completed high school, you’re probably familiar with J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye, and even if you didn’t, you’d know it from screenshots of quotes of Tumblr. His most famous and probably most influential of works that he begged, when he dies that no one make a movie of it. What was previously unknown or unpublished were another three stories by Salinger – titled Paula, Birthday Boy and The Ocean Full of Bowling Balls, reportedly the backstory to the well-loved protagonist Holden Caulfield.

Salinger donated them to a university on signed terms that they would not be published or replicated until 50 years after his death. Well it’s only been 3 and of course the Internet Lords somehow made this leak possible. Appearing first on eBay packaged as an illegally published collection titled, Three Stories containing PDF scanned prints of the work.

Confirmed as original by Kenneth Slawenski, author of Salinger: A Life – ““While I do quibble with the ethics (or lack of ethics) in posting the Salinger stories, they look to be true transcripts of the originals and match my own copies”.

Typos and syntactical lapses included, those pages are worth gold.
