Everybody take a deep breath…this is as cool as you think it is. Russian designer, Vadim Kibardin, winner of the 2012 DESIGN AND DESIGN International award is developing a levitating computer mouse. And continuing with the theme of small mammals, it’s appropriately called “The Bat” – and let’s face it – bat’s eat mice; the mouse’s days are numbered. Now, I can understand the cynics might be like “Yeah right!” but the science sounds pretty simple: magnetic rings keep “The Bat” afloat and it hovers 10 millimeters beneath the weight of a user’s hand, with a 40 millimeter maximum height when not in use – simple right? Well, where the hell is my floating skateboard?!

“The Bat” is meant to reduce pressure on the wrist and theoretically lead to a lower incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome but who cares about carpal tunnel syndrome – the damn thing floats and is called “The Bat” – is anybody else thinking product placement opportunity for the next Batman flick? Just picture it painted black…
