Legendary New York subway writer turned fine artist Mare139 recently opened a retrospective exhibition at the Pratt Gallery, reflecting on his life and legacy as an artist.
The installation of the show mirrors the artist’s personal journey, with early sketches and photos sitting side by side with more recent works. Mare139 has long been an outspoken advocate for graffiti in arts education, and this collection puts a lot of his views in perspective.
For the rest of us it’s a rare insight into the mind of an artist who’s had a huge impact on graffiti culture as we know it.
