True Self Exhibition at Melbourne GPO
Oz artists and designers collaborate on one off canvas for charity
Posted By ACCLAIM Staff | 1-Jun-2012True Self is a charity exhibition linking fashion and art in the form of a chain letter. Presented by Melbourne’s GPO and The Jacky Winter Group, 52 artists from around the country are collaborating with one another to create A3 sized artworks where proceeds from artwork sales will go towards ‘Fitted for Work’ – a not-for-profit group providing clothing and training for disadvantaged women to try and help them find employment.
The way it works is that art boards are sent out to the artists (such as Beci Orpin, Akira Isogawa, We Buy Your Kids) to leave their ‘mark’ on it, which they then pass onto one another. Once the art boards have been passed onto all of the participating artists, they will then be returned to the GPO to be exhibited. Themes of self-image and transformation will be explored. The exhibition runs from June 1-24 at the GPO, level one on Bourke Street Mall. Have a look at some of the finished works in the gallery above.
