Video: Tales From the Rails

Freight train graffiti in American is often overlooked as the little cousin of the original Subway movement, but it has it’s own cultures and traditions that have spread country-wide. Tales From the Rails is a documentary of sorts that was shot over an eight year period from 1992 by Monty Nielsen, documenting freight graffiti from the East to West coasts. Shot on Super 8 and 35mm stills, the film is a labour of love that captures the climate of the time. Featuring interviews and bombing missions, as well as flicks of hundreds of freight pieces, it’s a pretty amazing snapshot of the movement.
