Akira is probably one of my favourite films of all time and I’ve always been a bit iffy about a live-action remake. It definitely deserves to be turned into a live-action, but the question is, is it actually possible? The last time there were talks about it was only last year, with Keanu Reeves’ name being thrown in to the mix. Thank god that whole reincarnation went to shit. This year Warner Bros put their remake on hold for the fourth time due to budget blow-outs and nightmare re-writes.

Though I wouldn’t automatically have doubts about an adaptation just like that, let’s face it, the 1988 anime was such a landmark film that it’s almost too hard—and too expensive—to adapt. Now, a small Montreal-based production company are hoping to make a fan trailer for a live-action version of Akira with their grassroots project kicking off with a web campaign and website to rustle up a bit of support. CineGround producer and director, Nguyen-Anh Nguyen, is such a huge fan of the 1988 film he feels he has the resources to give the anime the live-action adaptation it deserves. Bearing in mind that these guys are only filming a trailer, it’ll be interesting to see how it looks, how it’s received and what the next chapter in the saga will be. Stay tuned here for more details…
