Vintage Footage of ‘Street Market’ – Twist, Espo, and Reas

Twist, Espo, and Reas’ 2000 ‘Street Market’ installation was a definitive turning point in the presentation of graffiti in a gallery context. The sprawling installation superseded the restrictions of the gallery and the streets, and set the bar high enough that the entire install was recently recreated as part of MOCA’s massive Art In The Street show. This interview from the year of the install gives an insight into Espo’s motivations behind the work, showing just how on point he was a decade ago. His throwaway line ‘We are the products, and what we create is a product’ hits pretty close to home.
