Visual Feed: Gathering of The Juggalos22-Aug-2012
If you’ve been on the internet for a minute you’ve no doubt come across the regional-American phenomenon that is Juggalo culture. If you’ve never been online until now and this is the first site you’ve ever visited, first let me say that I’m flattered, and second let me give you a quick rundown. Juggalos are the core fan base of US horror/christian musicians the Insane Clown Posse, once a year they all gather in one spot for five days to celebrate their favourite music and commit acts of debaucherous redneckery.
While my initial reaction was to mock the shit out of these guys, I found myself taking pause. First up, their festival attendance regularly tops out at over 100,000 people. So this isn’t just a fringe activity by a few lonely teenagers who hate school and love the drama that’s inherently added by clown makeup, this is a legitimate culture with it’s own codes and traditions. Secondly, I feel like the rest of the internet kind of has the making fun of these guys thing on lock.
What I will say is that outside of the performers, the entire audience seems to be white. I mean c’mon, it’s not as if we need anything else to make us look worse in front of the rest of the world.
