POW! WOW! Hawaii has released its official 2013 video in the lead up to next year’s festival in February.

The week-long street art festival in Honolulu is different from any other in that its focus is not just the finished work on the walls, but the process of getting artists together to create it.

Founder and Lead Director of POW! WOW! Hawaii Jasper Wong talks about the ideas behind the festival, the opportunities he sees in blank walls and the coming together of artists to turn them into something amazing.

He discusses the collaborative aspect of dozens of artists from around the world working together, to form a 24/7 studio that is completely open to the public, and create accessible art that is able to impact and engage anyone that walks by.

POW! WOW! artists travel from all over the world, and have created what Co-Lead Director Kamea Hadar calls a global community. Artists themselves feature in the video too – Australia’s own Phibs and San Francisco’s Apex talk about their experiences with POW! WOW! Other 2013 artists included Meggs, Rone, Jeff Soto and more.

There are plenty of sunny shots of Hawaii’s beautiful forest covered mountains and palm trees, and series of timelapse shots of some really impressive walls going up.

POW! WOW! Hawaii is set to happen again in February 2014. In the meantime, check out the video above, and for more info head to the POW! WOW! Hawaii website.
