To commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I, a team at the Open University in the United Kingdom has sifted through photo archives from around the world to source significant and unique images from the battlefields and the home front.

The university has enlisted the help of a photograph restoration expert to carefully colour black and white images found in archives that convey iconic moments from the ‘Great War’.

There is something a little creepy about seeing colour photos from periods previously only seen in black and white. Take a look above.
