RSSHong Kong Tour Part 2
Posted on 2010-06-13 21:30 | Posted by Andrew MontellMy second day of recon in HK saw me visiting the creative studios of two well established and respected labels in the Hong Kong streetwear market. First up was Subcrew React, a team of young-gun designers and entrepreneurs who have a solid following throughout Asia. The Subcrew studio was a cool space, full of inspirational nik-naks and collectable items. The boys showed me a bunch of new items and hooked me up with a dope button-up long sleeve and a pair of sunglasses that I've been rocking daily. KS from Subcrew was kind enough to show me around the neighborhood including his own art studio and then down the road to the headquarters of what is possibly Hong Kong's first Street label Dusty. I was met by Dusty founder Paul Ma who was happy to sit down for an interview about the streetwear scene in Hong Kong and his own projects throughout Asia. Paul is largely inspired by golden era hip-hop, especially Public Enemy so we had a lot to talk about. After a quick tour of the Dusty operation and warehouse and a scan over some pretty dope items from the new range I had to rush off to my interview with Michael Lau on the other side of Hong Kong. The whole trip to HK was dope and I got to meet with a lot of the movers and shakers in the vibrant street industry there. I just wish I had more time to really absorb the place.
I'll keep y'all posted with news from both of these labels so keep watching this space.
