On Sunday, LA’s much-loved Do-Over day party goes down in Australia for the first time. Expect the unexpected at the Melbourne show with an all-star lineup of secret guests. It’s free, but you’ll need to throw an RSVP in here.

To mark the occasion, DJ Haycock (one of Do-Over’s three hosts, alongside Jamie Strong and Aloe Blacc) hooked us up with an exclusive mix from his archives.

Because he’s a bona fide expert, we’ve also picked Haycock’s brains on the topic of partying. If you’re keen to step up your hedonism game, read on.

What made you choose to throw a day party?

Jamie and I found great satisfaction drinking beers on a Sunday afternoon. It was a natural and acceptable practice considering our upbringing. Once things are in the light of day, they prove to be more honest.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever seen at a Do-Over party?

It’s tough to rank an experience as the “weirdest” over any other. We’ve always encouraged and embraced the not normal to happen as it makes things much more interesting.

What’s your number one track guaranteed to kick-start any house party?

Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock It Takes Two.

What was the first house party you ever threw like?

Obviously it was a high school beer bust in the early 90’s, or an even earlier middle school basement sneak. Cops would typically arrive by 10pm with those sorts of parties… we were kids. We still are.

Do you guys have any golden rules for throwing a good party?

Lots of girls, lots of booze and a smashing sound system.

Do you guys have any golden rules for making good sangria?

We love sangria as it has endless possibilities. A good garnish reflective of where we happen to be and of course a nice dose of real booze – rum, brandy or other.
