Louis Theroux’s Scientology movie gets a trailer

Ahead of its limited time in Australian cinemas from September 8

British-American documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux is a man who needs very little introduction at this point in his career. Renowned for his hugely popular Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends as well as a series of specials on England’s BBC Two, Theroux has quickly made a name for himself as one of the world’s most popular, and talented, documentarians.

Never one to shy away from contentious, controversial and/or quirky subject matter, Louis Theroux has turned his attention to a subject that, itself, needs no introduction at this point — Scientology. Covering the mysterious ‘religion’ for his first feature length documentary, My Scientology Movie, Theroux and Madman Films are bringing the documentary feature to select Australian cinemas for one week only in September.

Having premiered the film at London Film Festival in October of last year to considerable acclaim, and praise, My Scientology Movie has been highly anticipated by fans of Theroux for a great length of time, and Australian filmgoers now have their very own trailer to feast their eyes on ahead of the movie’s brief appearance on our screens.

Including appearances by ex-Scientology senior executive Mark Rathbun, and a shooting gallery of shady Scientologists seeming to combat Theroux’s attempts to document the religion, this fresh trailer is surely enough to whet the appetites of Theroux fans and have them flocking to buy tickets to the film’s limited screenings in Australian cinemas (the list of participating cinemas can be found here.

Of course, that’s not all that Australian Louis Theroux fans have to look forward to this year, with the man himself coming to Australia for a series of appearances around the country live on stage, the dates and ticket details of which you can find here.

Looks like September is all set to be a great month for Louis fans down under.
