Those Swedish homemaking trailblazers, IKEA have finally outdone themselves by announcing the June 30 opening of their new IKEA Museum.

The museum is located in Älmhult, Sweden and is divided into three sections: ‘Our Roots’, ‘Our Story’, and ‘Your Story’. According to the official website the museum aims to share “everything that makes IKEA what it is today, and what it may be tomorrow”, apparently this even includes the people behind the furniture and the all of the “mistakes and lessons learned”. Get comfy.

The museum is also located on the exact site of the original IKEA store which first opened its doors on October 28 1958, and, as though you didn’t need less obstacles trying to navigate your way around an IKEA store, contains 20,000 individual objects and is a whopping 7000 square meters in size.

Whilst not only providing a go-to bastion for first-home buyers and bored, early-retirement couples, IKEA certainly seems to be making the most of its ‘community-driven’ mindset by actively welcoming its plethora of consumers into what’s being described as IKEA’s “home”, but is sure to look exactly like your grandparents’ holiday house.
