These iPhone photos are officially better than yours

It just became a lot easier to be an award-winning photographer

Posted by

With the iPhone 6 having a casual 8 mega-pixel camera as the standard spec, it seems like iPhone users have transformed from amateur picture takers to enthusiastic professional photographers almost overnight. That being said, the announcement of the iPhone Photography Awards 9th Annual iPhone photography awards is hugely relevant and features some very impressive images captured on the humble mobile device.

This year’s comp saw a heap of hopeful mobile photographers send in their best shots from 139 countries with subjects including all your standard Instagram fodder – epic landscapes, a well-composed squad photo, and lots and lots of dogs. Snapping up top prize this year was Siyuan Niu, from China with his work ‘The Man and the Eagle’ – a majestic portrait of, well, this dude and his trained eagle.

And sure, that’s obviously not your average iPhone photo opp but it’s definitely worthy inspiration for next year’s entrants (who can get involved right now). So if you think you can upload a mean mobile photo, check out a few of our favourites above to see what you’re up against and see all the winning images from the 2016 IPP Awards here.
