DJ Nate - Da Trak Genius - Footwurk

DJ Nate's (I would suggest the artist page on his record label, not his myspace) recent releases in August and September have helped solidify and define the latest genre to come out of Chicago known as Juking or Footwurk (Footwork). The 20 year old has just dropped his feature full length release (available for pre-order) called Da Trak Genius which has been released via Planet Mu records who picked up the artist earlier this year based on a few sparse demos floating around the internet. This new scene involves kids dancing to the african inspired rhythms using a combination of up-rocking, jazz dancing, c-walking and just plain frantic foot work. Easily the most original release around at the moment and worth picking up.

Specialising in American menswear with a focus on independent brands and garments not available in Australia, the duo are committed to bringing a little bit of NYC style down under. We spoke to owner Gavin about New York, the motivation behind the store and some of his favourite pieces, some of which appear in the gallery of this post, so make sure you check it out as up until October 15th Bleecker St. is offering all ACCLAIM readers 10% off all new season stock. Just enter ACCLAIM at checkout.

What was the motivation behind creating BleeckerSt.com?

We love that New Yorkers have a style unto themselves. They don’t try to be cool, they just are. After living in New York for a number of years we moved home in 2009 to launch BleeckerSt.com; to share the big city’s brash attitude and offer an alternative to the mass-produced ‘designer’ shit in your neighbourhood.

Who are the brains behind the store?

Behind BleeckerSt.com is myself, Gavin Ward, and my creative advertising background, Marika Ward and her men’s fashion design and buying background and Ace, our French

Futura Laboratories teams up with ski brand Descente and gets access to their knowledge in skiwear for this special Futura X Crank selection of pieces. We could see these also being a solid staple for those that are looking for something to wear for those long bike rides what with it's quick drying properties. One of the shirts features the Futura ‘atom’ graphic with the other taking images from Futura’s Flickr where he goes by the name Futuradosmil.
