Adam Banton has that one thing that everyone wants: balance. Work and play go hand-in-hand, but at the end of the day, there’s more to his life than BMX. When he’s not riding professionally, he writes music. And cooks. And has breakfast with his friends. And hangs at home. Or at his parents home. He’s that dude who actually adheres to the “Life’s too short…” philosophy—and enjoying his life and job is what matters the most. Envious? You should be…

We recently caught up with the Armourdillo rider who let us in on a few of life’s little secrets…

My name is… Adam Thane Banton

I live… to do what I love and spend everyday enjoying it for the best quality of life. Riding and playing music are my ingredients. Life is too short for traffic and jobs you hate.

Besides from BMX I also spend time… playing/making music, I put out 2 albums (iTunes.com/adambanton) and have been on a long journey to finish the latest third record.  During that time, I’ve written a good amount of songs for BMX vids and a friend’s indie film. I love to get up to the mountains and snowboard. Cooking is my down time. When not travelling, I’m eating at home all the time.

My parents always thought I was going to be… a magician. When I was little, I always had a knack for getting my head stuck in things. Everywhere we went, I would see if my head would fit through something. It got stuck a lot.

The trick that took me the longest to stomp was… ah man, there are a lot of these, hahaha. One that stands out for me though is Opposite Tailwhips. The day I learned them, I really felt like I wasn’t trying that hard. Off and on though, that was a four-year learning lesson. Yeesh!

In high school I… didn’t care about anything other than riding.

When I’m riding I listen to…my red iShuffle. I love that thing, it won’t die. There’s not even tons of music on it, so most of it repeats during a full session. But what is on there, I will never get tired of…you know, it’s the stuff that never sounds bad to your ears and fits almost any mood you’re in.  Kind of a building block for my audio palette: The Statistics, Underoath (the old stuff), Trouble Andrew, Mortal Treason, The Raveonettes

My liquor of choice after a long day is… I don’t drink, sooooooo…..

I think long-boards are… a sign it’s going to be a full flight.

My perfect sponsor would be… able to just let me do what I love to do. Support, nourish, and let it grow. That’s it. Simple. I feel like I’m close to this. It’s a great place to be.

The last thing I did that I regret now was… make Salsa Verde and Curried Cauliflower soup for lunch. Good food, but not together.

The perfect girl would be… is this a trick question? Umm, I could get in big trouble here with my girlfriend……hahaha……just someone that supports me 100% with my life and the path it has chosen. Living that healthy, active lifestyle that can cook is a must. Being a brunette would help a lot too.

One place I’ll rather be right now is… ummmm, nowhere, I’m at my parents house, it’s the holidays and I’m sipping on some eggnog in my Jammies.

Tomorrow I will be… enjoying the day with people I care about, starting off with a nice breakfast and coffee.

In ten years time I will be… hopefully happy and healthy, enjoying my creative outlets and enjoying it everyday.

Adam Banton is an Armourdillo Broadcaster, a group of riders who ‘bring something special to the table’. The broadcasters may be from different sports, backgrounds and upbringings but they all have that ‘live life to the fullest’ mentality that seems to be getting rarer and rarer these days.
