Can you smell that? It’s a life without the unsettling scent of plastic i.e. the very possible end of Crocs. After an apparently miserable quarter, the company that somehow managed to popularise the hole-y, plastic clogs (and subsequent styles) is facing the unfortunate reality of cutting down on some of their stores and staff. With a drop in profits of 44% in the past three months, the company is set to close 100 of its 600 stores, let go 180 staff and reduce its range by 30% to 40%. Despite being a popular choice for pharmacists, doctors and…green thumbs everywhere, it looks like the plastic fumes are starting to clear and the world is finally starting to wake up from the temporary insanity caused by these shoes.

According to a statement from company president Andrew Rees, “We have a clear, well-defined strategy for addressing these issues and improving performance. Work is under way already to drive significant change throughout our company.”
