Bret Easton Ellis’s Apartment
It's up for rent. No, seriously....18-Jun-2012
What sort of place would the man behind some of the most-referenced literary characters in pop culture live in? You would probably imagine shelves and shelves of books, lots of artwork, possibly Patrick Bateman’s axe hanging on the wall, that kind of thing…
Actually, his East 13th Street apartment in East Village is kinda subdued. And it’s a bedsitter. Not a 1BR, a bedsitter. As in the entire apartment is in one room. Also, it’s up for rent…for $5000pcm. Yes, I know, I know, this is Manhattan, everyone lives in bedsitters etc etc, and sure, it has 14ft high ceilings, huge windows, a 400sq ft terrace (something tells me the terrace is bigger than the apartment) and a shared rooftop deck. But for $5000 a month?! Considering the average price for a rental in Manhattan is a measly $3438pcm, I feel $5K is a bit of a rip. We’re not all best-selling authors making millions, Bret Easton Ellis! Sheesh!
