Weed is generating some serious coin for the state of Colorado, according to Time Magazine during the past financial year the state earned around $70 million from taxes on marijuana, almost double what they earned from alcohol, which was a measly $42 million.

Along with legalisation of weed in early 2014 Colorado also placed a 10% retail tax on marijuana and 15% excise tax for bulk wholesale weed.

The tax on weed has generated so much that Colorado decided to grant marijuana a tax holiday for one day last week, so everyone could get high, completely tax free. Maybe this could be a nice green way to deal with Australia’s fiscal issues… just sayin’.
