Legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield has confirmed that the company is working on the Nike Air MAG for release sometime this year. Reportedly the 2015 edition will feature fully functioning power laces and according to papers filed with the US patent office the technology does exist to create a working version the sneakers we saw in the film.

There has been no word on when we can expect the release this year, Hatfield says that his team is working hard to get the out this year. We still have just over 11 months till the end of 2015, so fingers crossed.

This won’t be the first time the shoe has been produced. In 2011, Nike and Micheal J. Fox Foundation auctioned 1,500 pairs of a non-self-lacing version, raising around $5.7USD for Parkinson’s research.
