“Don’t discriminate. We’re all purple at heart.” That was the take-home message from the Melbourne leg of A$AP Rocky’s sold-out AUS/NZ tour, and this positivity ran throughout his set. The live band turned out to be pleasingly not-lame addition, Festival Hall’s acoustics were surprisingly crisp and Rocky’s live vocals were at the front of the mix. Pretty Flacko had a puzzlingly long two-hour set for a solo artist who’s only released one studio album and one mixtape, and this led to a bit of playing for time (putting on other people’s tracks, throwing towels and water into the crowd). But seeing a performer in the midst of a world-beating career streak is always a bit special, and this show was no exception.
