Things we saw at the Lil B show: superfans holding cooking utensils aloft; a young woman licking the sweat off the BasedGod’s chest; “$80,000 BasedGod shoes” (their value had appreciated by $5,000 since we interviewed him a week prior); a shoutout to Joel and Benji Madden; a devotee with his hands pressed together in prayer, crying; people losing their shit for YouTube hit ‘Wonton Soup’; a surprisingly tepid response to The Pack’s mid-noughties hit ‘Vans’; Lil B playfully berating security for letting people on stage; Lil B inviting people on stage; Lil B sticking around for 45 minutes to hug, and pose for a photo with, every fan. It was one part motivational seminar, one part cult and all kinds of beautiful.
