Through his use of discarded and alternative media, Nick Gentry has correlated the theme of identity, with that of the digital age. By utilising his skills in detailed and intricate portraiture, Gentry uses “memories of peoples lives to create a new identity”. The floppy discs, which Gentry uses as his canvases is meant to alert his audience to the notion of constant progression, in an age where recycling is possible in comparison to mass consumerism. In a sense, Gentry’s “social art” is meant to be a realistic reminder of the birth of a digital age.
