Gracing one of eight covers for New York magazine’s annual ‘Yesteryear’ issue is none other than Jay Z. The snap comes from a 1997 shoot, back when the Hov was a fresh-faced 29-year-old. In an issue celebrating 100 years of pop music in New York, the other covers feature artists like Bob Dylan, the Notorious B.I.G. and Frank Sinatra. Check out the features from this edition at Vulture, the entertainment section of New York, including The Encyclopaedia of Pop Music, which looks at the evolution of music from The Ramones to Wu-Tang Clan.

Take a look at the eight covers above.
