Dam Funk – I Don’t Wanna Be a Star! (Prince Cover)

Releases a handheld drum machine/sequencer at the same time

Los Angeles’ representative of electro-funk and boogie Dam Funk has released the first four tracks from his upcoming 2012 album Invite the Light on a maxi-single entitled I Don’t Wanna Be a Star!.

Released on Stones Throw Records, the EP features a deep synth cover of Prince’s 17 Days, first released in 1984 as the B-Side to When Birds Cry. It also features the upbeat I Don’t Wanna Be a Star! single, and two instrumental tracks. All of which can be purchased via the Stones Throw online store.

Maybe just as exciting was the coinciding release of The Dam Drum – a handheld drum machine and sequencer featuring four unique sounds selected by Dam Funk, in association with Stones Throw and Bleep Labs. The Dam Drum sold out within a week. Watch the video of it in action above.

17 Days can be heard  here.
