Melbourne Zoo was forced in to lockdown this afternoon after an orangutan escaped it’s enclosure and made it to a public area within the zoo.

The Age is reporting that Malu an eleven-year-old male Sumatran orangutan has since been contained by zoo officials who cornered and tranquillised the ape. Melbourne Zoo staff are saying that at no time were visitors or staff in danger due to the zoo’s timely response locking down the area.

There’s been no word yet on how Malu escaped or if his intentions were to go and live it up in a five star hotel like the 1996 classic Dunston Checks In.
