On a good day, getting around in Melbourne can be… bearable. On a bad day, your train gets cancelled, you have insufficient funds on your Myki and your pre-booked taxi fails to show up. It’s days like these you wish you had a personal driver at your fingertips to chauffer you to your next meeting, gig, coffee date.

Luckily, Uber has officially launched in Melbourne, putting an end to our transport nightmares.

Started in San Fran and operating successfully all over the US, Uber is an app-based private car service that provides you with a luxury ride from Point A to Point B within minutes of a request. Your credit card is charged automatically through the app, so there’s no awkward cash-shortage scenarios at the end of the trip.

And when we say luxury, we mean luxury. You can track the always on-time arrival of your shiny black car, have your driver open your door for you, have an umbrella handy for those freak Melbourne showers and complimentary water waiting in the car’s plush interior. If that’s not ballin’, I don’t know what is.

The Uber app is now available for iPhone and Android and is operating throughout Melbourne’s metro area. For more info on rates and services, check out the Uber Melbourne site.
