Everyone’s favourite hot sauce manufacturer Sriracha has landed themselves in some hot water. They don’t appear to be the favourite of the people of Irwindale, California who are suing the brand because they don’t like the smell.

Apparently the chilli stank from the factory owned by Huy Fong Foods Inc. hasn’t gone down well with Irwindale locals, who have filed a public nuisance complaint because of the “strong and offensive” chilli odour.

The plant only operates three months out of the year, during jalapeño harvest season. But it’s three months too many according to locals who can’t stand the “chilli and garlic and whatever else is in it.”

The case is due to go to court on Thursday in the US, where a judge will decide on the city’s order of shutting the plant down.

Seeing as it’s Halloween and all, it may also may be a good chance to show your support for Sriracha with this lovely costume idea.

But for now grab all the Sriracha you can, because it may not be around much longer. I’d say get it while it’s hot, but you know…
