Let’s face it, most of the things we loved about the ‘90s were pretty ridiculous. I mean, I defy anyone who doesn’t cringe at most photos of themselves from that time. But for some reason, bizarro was kind of the flavour of the decade and here’s one from the vault to remind us of that golden era in pop culture.

Poochinski is a buddy-cop comedy series that was pitched to NBC in 1990. Featuring the late Peter Boyle (you will recognise from Everybody Loves Raymond) as the main character, a Chi-town detective who is killed on the job…and then has his spirit transferred into his pet bulldog. The following 20 minutes is then overloaded with the kind of antics you might expect a crass, wise-cracking womaniser to get up to if he was a dog – namely more wise-cracking and womanising. i.e. “You see a girl you like, you don’t have to bother with small talk.”

Sadly, the network chose to pass on this gem but not before giving the pilot its place in television history. Got some time to waste? No? Hit play above anyway, you won’t regret it.
