If the stereotype of an overweight, old, and rich man with a young trophy wife is anything to go by, recent studies by the University of Otago, New Zealand should come as little surprise. Overweight men are on average, bigger ballers than slim men, earning $120 a week more. The trend doesn’t continue for women however, earning on average $55 less than those with lower BMIs. Also found was a small but “still persuasive link between increasing body size in women and lower income, depression, low self esteem and dissatisfaction with life.”

Surprisingly (or not) there was no such link between men with higher BMIs and other outcomes measured in the study such as self esteem and mental health. So next time you bag out that overweight person in your class, think again. That dude’s probably going to be your boss somewhere down the track.
