Moscow City Hall is planning on hooking up the city’s universities with free Wi-Fi (yay!) but are planning on blocking porn, torrents, explicit language, online games and other fun things of this variety (boo!).

The $20 million project will see free Wi-Fi in 143 campuses housing about 85,000 students, as well as all Moscow state-run institutes and universities. The internet access will be free and unlimited.

Providers will maintain a list of sites not allowed to those underage – this includes pornography, explicit language, promotion of forbidden drugs, violence and other things and actions that could be a threat to children’s lives or health, suicide advice. The data that “denies family values and justifies unlawful behaviour” will be blocked as well.

The only way that students will be able to access the forbidden content is to purchase their own personal modems.
