I’m pretty terrible at film, much less Australian film directors, so when I heard that Baz Luhrmann was directing and adaption of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘The Great Gatsby it didn’t really register. Now that the first trailer has been released I’m actually finding myself looking forward to it.

The film is clearly aiming at drawing parallels between the hedonism of the 1920’s and here-and-now New York, with the trailer opening to Jay-Z and Kanye’s ‘No Church in The Wild’. Allegedly Luhrmann relied on a lot of Jay’s music to set the tone on set, so here’s hoping that we get to see Nick Carraway make it rain on some jazz-era strippers.
