When rapper Tupac Shakur was fatally gunned down in 1996 at just 25 years old, much of the world was left wondering what could have been.

But while many such wonderings may have centred on the legendary late rapper’s musical offerings, news came out this week that Shakur could have added Jedi to his list of achievements.

During an interview with Tupac fan site 2Pac-Forum, Death Row Records former chief engineer Rick Clifford claims that Shakur was reading for a Jedi part.

“’Pac found out that I worked for Brian Austin Green, who was on 90210, then he found out I was in some movies. So we always talked about his film career and stuff. He was telling me that he was supposed to read for George Lucas and them. They wanted him to be a Jedi. Yes, I’m serious — Samuel L. got Tupac’s part.

Yeah, he called me ‘Old Man.’ He said ‘Old Man, keep your fingers crossed, I got three movies coming up. One of them I gotta read for George Lucas’.”

Turns out the film was Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, and the part was that of Mace Windu, Jedi warrior and Master of the Order, one that eventually went to Samuel L Jackson.

Tupac had a string of acting roles in the early nineties, with the films Juice, Poetic Justice and Above the Rim, so the claim isn’t entirely unimaginable. Star Wars creator George Lucas is yet to comment though.
