When hacker group Impact Team released the Ashley Madison data, they ensured that “thousands” of the women’s profiles were fake. A journalist at Gizmodo decided to download the data to find out the actual statistics of women users on Ashley Madison, and found that around 12 thousand of the 37 million profiles seemed to belong to women who were active on the site. The rest of the 5.5 million women users that had profiles appeared to have abandoned their profiles directly after they were created.

According to Gizmodo it was found that vast amounts of men seeking discreet relationships were actually flirting to fembots/robo-mail accounts, which were used to say things like, “Sexicindi has indicated she is interested in someone just like you. You should send her a custom message to connect.” It seems that Ashley Madison was definitely not all that it seemed, encouraging men to spend money to chat to these ‘real’ users, I smell frauds. For a more detailed look at what the data contained, check out the article here.
