I don’t know if it’s sad or ironic that the last person Tupac Shakur saw and spoke to was a police officer. Yet fitting, and awesome, that those last words were apparently, “Fuck you.”

This is the latest information to surface from the now infamous shooting death of the legendary rapper back in ’96, according to that police officer, now retired former sergeant Chris Carroll. Speaking to Vegas Seven, Carroll recounts the evening and being the first cop on the scene after being called to the incident after the Mike Tyson/Bruce Seldon fight at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand. Carroll says he removed a bleeding and incoherent Pac from the car, trying to get a get a ‘dying declaration’ out of him.

“I kept asking over and over, ‘Who did this? Who shot you?’ And then I saw in his face, in his movements, all of a sudden in the snap of a finger, he changed…He went from fighting to ‘I can’t do it.’ And when he made that transition, he looked at me, and he’s looking right in my eyes. And that’s why I looked at him and said one more time, ‘Who shot you?’ He looked at me and took a breath to get the words out, and he opened his mouth and I thought I was actually going to get some cooperation. And then the words came out: ‘Fuck you.”

Carroll cites his recent retirement from the police force, alongside the fact that this 18-year-old homicide case is still open, as the reason why he’s waited so long to divulge his personal experience with the late rapper. So there you have it. Which doesn’t really give us any more clarity, besides the fact that Pac kept it straight G ‘til the end but this will undoubtedly re-open the never ending debate about that fatal shooting.
