Volvo have teamed up with UK design company Grey London, and startup Albedo100 to create ‘Life Paint’ – a wearable reflective spray that is invisible during the day, but illuminates wearers at night and comes off after around 10 days. The aim of the product is to aid in road safety by making cyclists (and pedestrians and children and the elderly and dogs and cats) glow like the fire of a thousand burning suns.

The paint comes as part of the car manufacturer’s “2020 vision” to ensure that “by 2020, no person will be killed or seriously injured by a new Volvo” – which all depends on whether there’s a bloody Volvo driver behind the wheel.

lol.

In all seriousness though, the managing director at Volvo Car UK, Nick Connor, stated that “Every year more than 19,000 cyclists are injured on the UK’s roads. At Volvo, we believe that the best way to survive a crash is not to crash, and are committed to making the roads a safer place by reducing the number of accidents.” The spray is currently being trialled at six cycling shops in Kent and London, and if it’s deemed a success, then we will soon be ~seeing~ cyclists donning the spray internationally (and will probably be appropriated by Health Goth enthusiasts and arty types alike).
