The WikiLeaks server that hosted hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables, and both the cablegates and war logs operations is up for sale on Ebay.

The server, which was used by WikiLeaks from September 2010 until July 2011, was put up for auction by Swedish internet service provider Bahnhof who rented it to King whistle-blower himself Julian Assange. Bids of $3,000 and above were made only a few hours after the auction went live, and there is still 8 days left to bid. With proceeds going to Reporters Without Borders and 5july.org, WikiLeaks should be happy they are once again popular and that the money is at least going to a good cause

But it would seem they feels to the contrary. Voicing their opinion via Twitter (of course); “Bahnhof did not seek permission to auction the WikiLeaks server or to use it for marketing purposes, or to send the proceeds to others”.

Despite Bahnhof rep Jon Karlug’s comments to The Register  suggesting the sale is aligned with the beliefs of the WikiLeaks group;  “I see this auction of hardware as a great opportunity to raise interest for freedom of speech on the Internet”- that’s kind of a WikiLeaks thing right?-WikiLeaks just can’t seem to concede their Dell Poweredge R410. Even more so the contents has been wiped clean and not even the NSA could retrieve the original information, so what’s the harm?

And really should this piece of hacking, double-crossing, whistle-blower history really be shoved next to some rich guys golf trophies in his man cave? Wouldn’t it seem better suited to sit in a museum, and wouldn’t that piss Julian Assange and his crew off less? I mean I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be getting on the bad side of the guy that can easily hack in to your Swedish bank account and reveal all those non-neutral activities you been up to. Just a tip for you Bahnof.

Saying that, if you got the cash to splash and wanna pretend your delving into the depth of the darknet like some badass hacker or you simply wanna backup and archive your iTunes library to something a little bit special, why not have a bid.
