Kanye West is a polariser – there’s no mistaking that. And this is why every time the rapper grants an audience with the media (like his recent GQ interview), he whips snark journalists into a frenzy, as they sink their teeth into his perceived hubris. It’s an easy and safe response to just dismiss what Kanye says as empty hyperbole, but you’re only really depriving yourself of the full, rich experience that is Kanye West. And it’s hard to ignore his achievements – from The College Dropout to his latest work, the chaotic Death Grips–influenced Yeezus, he has consistently cemented his position as a clairvoyant and tastemaker. (But, yeah, Kanye has said some pretty outrageous stuff to journalists.)
