The Grammys are declining in popularity with artists and fans alike, many of whom believe the awards show fails to encompass the true multiplicity of the music industry and is out of touch with the youth. Despite both receiving (numerous) nominations, it sounds like Drake and Kanye will both be no shows this year. West has criticised the Grammys in the past for a lack of diversity.

Frank Ocean expressed views to the New York Times, telling them “It just doesn’t seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from and hold down what I hold down.” Ocean’s latest album, Blond, was not submitted for consideration for 2017.

It isn’t all bad though, the 2017 Grammys stage will be graced by Anderson .Paak and A Tribe Called Quest, performing together. After a decade hiatus, A Tribe Called Quest returned last year to drop a sixth album, making us want to thank the group for their service.

Anderson .Paak brought some of his incredible vocals to the track ‘Movin Backwards’ on Tribe’s most recent album, We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service, and so we only imagine that these two musical forces will bring some serious heat to the Grammys stage. It might be the only reason to watch the Grammys at all, but it’s a hella good reason.
