Singer Alice Glass is departing synthpunk group Crystal Castles. When your band is also a duo, this unfortunately also means that the entire group is disbanding.

On her solo Facebook page, Alice wrote an explanation for the departure that bordered on a passive aggressive dig at the ethics of producer Ethan Kath.

I am leaving Crystal Castles.
My art and my self-expression in any form has always been an attempt towards sincerity, honesty, and empathy for others.
For a multitude of reasons both professional and personal I no longer feel that this is possible within CC.
Although this is the end of the band, I hope my fans will embrace me as a solo artist in the same way they have embraced Crystal Castles.

The CC camp has been pretty quiet since the release of III in 2012. Their press and publicity interactions were notably subdued following the release and their public appearances were reduced to their live show presence.

In an interview with NME, the band’s manager suggested that there will be “…twists and turns ahead for Crystal Castles…” which is both enigmatic and totally transparent. New band name? Supergroup? Yo Gabba Gabba cameo? Hopefully all those things.

Fans of chaotic synthpunk duos will forever lament the year that was 2014 for robbing them of the respectively prolific and selective talents of Death Grips and Crystal Castles. Still, now that both acts are scattered, how cool would a producer/singer swap between both the acts be? A boy can dream…
